Level Designer - Spark Unlimited
At Spark Unlimited, my knowledge of Unreal 3 allowed me to quickly become a valuable resource to the company. The first level I was given to design was actually a multi stage hub that unlocked an additional wing in each new act. "Kovac's Lab" in act one, was merely a few rooms built from reclaimed scrap metal where you'd visit to get missions from Dr. Kovac. In act two, the lab expands to house live test subject rooms and an operating area. Finally in act 3, we added on a supply and storage area to the back of the lab. Each act also had it's own NPC events, story events and gameplay exclusive to that act. Another noteworthy fact, I became the in studio expert on the quest tools and taught the rest of the design team how to properly use them, which also means I was the main resource for debunking the quest logic and errors. Lastly before shipping, I had an opportunity to add in multiple cinematics, additional pop up encounters and completely redesign a boss fight left behind by a designer that moved on.
